Coloured glass was long ago seen as a form of alchemy, a magical process.

The coloured light cast by glass was reputed to have supernatural properties.

Glass used to be a rare commodity.

It was made in small, irregularly shaped pieces.  To glaze a window the pieces of glass were combined together in a framework of lead calmes.

In the 15th century stained glass came to be used in domestic buildings. Period styles developed as new fashions evolved and tastes changed Victorian, the Arts and Crafts Movement, art nouveau, Edwardian, art deco, twenties and thirties vernacular, modern abstract.

Having suffered from ‘modernisation’ in the 1960s and 70s, domestic stained glass is now in vogue once again.

Traditionally made leaded-lights have subtly faceted surfaces which give them their character.

Simulations of stained glass neither match the brilliance of coloured glass nor the charm of a traditionally hand-built panel.
